Computer Access: Computers are now a part of most people's home, work, school, and leisure life. A computer provides an alternative and often a more efficient method to perform tasks. For individuals with disabilities, computers make things possible and are a great equalizer. Computer Access evaluations consider the individual's physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities and the tasks which need to be accomplished. Recommendations may include alternative keyboards and mice, voice recognition software, head and eye pointing devices, screen magnification and screen readers, etc. In addition, recommendations may include compensatory software to enhance educational outcomes for those with learning, sensory, cognitive, physical, and social/emotional disabilities. Ergonomics: Proper ergonomics at a computer workstation, whether at home, school or the workplace, can reduce the risk of injury. Ergonomic assessments are provided for individuals experiencing discomfort. An individual's posture and movement patterns are analyzed while performing computer and workstation tasks. Recommendations may include changes in positioning of the workstation components, the individual's seating, and recommendations of hardware or software and/or body mechanic education. Ergonomic education and consultations are provided to agencies regarding the prevention of injury as well as staff training and recommendations for equipment purchases. Environmental Controls: Environmental Controls provide individuals with disabilities independence in operating common devices in their home and work environments. Controlling the telephone, lights, IR devices, doors, etc, is possible using simple mechanical aids, to more sophisticated electronic and wireless devices. Environmental Control evaluations involve an assessment of an individual's motor, visual, and cognitive abilities and the matching of these findings with the appropriate technology. Job & Home Accommodations: Accommodations remove barriers in the workplace and at home and may include a wide range of modifications. Recommendations may include system or task approach changes, energy conservation and efficiency suggestions, organizational strategies, adaptive equipment or modification to existing tools, etc. |
